Healing Bone Broth, 2 Ways: For Humans & Pups (gluten free, AIP/paleo)

Bone broth can be so healing for the gut and is full of nutrients that further aide in healing!

Let’s check some of them out!

Bone broth contains

  • COLLAGEN & GELATIN: Both collagen and gelatin are joint protective, reduce joint pain/bone loss, and they help to restore gut health. They also promote a balance of good bacteria in gut (helping to address disbiosis). Collagen and gelatin also promote skin health and beautifully vibrant skin!

  • GLUCOSAMINE is anti-inflammatory.

  • CHONDROITIN SULFATE is also anti-inflammatory

  • The amino acids: GLYCINE, ARGININE, PROLINE, & GLUTAMINE promote liver/cellular detox, promote proper digestion, and are anti-inflammatory. They also help support gut lining integrity, aides in the healing of wounds, and prevents muscle waisting. Most awesomely, these aminos acids promote proper functioning of the immune system!

Bone broth can be used as soup bases, in smoothies, green juices, to make sauces, and to just sip on as a snack! It’s also an excellent pre-or-post workout, especially for those with autoimmune conditions as it’s so gentle on the stomach but provides needed nourishment to push through a workout.

Below I’ve developed a bone broth recipe for yourself and one for your cainine companion, that they’ll equally enjoy. Bone broth can be just as healing for our fur babies, as long as we make it pup safe! Our pup, Marley Bear, LOVES his bone broth! I serve it to him cold and warm! But another suggestion, that some dogs love, is to freeze the broth into ice cube trays and give as little “pupsicles”!

Now let’s get our healing on!

This recipe is nutrient dense, lower carb, grain free, gluten free, paleo, primal, Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) friendly, Whole30 compliant, & keto friendly!

What Makes this High-Vibing Food?

  • First and foremost, putting your own love, gratitude, time and energy into making foods at home will automatically raise the vibration of the foods/meal. This will also help to balance your sacral and heart chakras. Putting your love into the food you prepare will literally raise the vibrational frequency as love is the highest vibration out there!

  • You are what you eat and what your food eats. Using organic, GMO free, free/pasture raised, wild caught, minimally processed ingredients lead to an overall higher vibrational frequency. Basically, eating organic provides us extra energy currency!

  • This dish is rich in collagen and gelatin, which is grounding and protective. It also supports the root chakra.

  • This recipe is heavy in water, which supports the sacral chakra.

  • This recipe is full of healthy fats and oils, which supports the sacral chakra.

  • Contains yellow/tan/golden colored foods, which help raise the body’s frequency to that of the solar plexus, helping to balance it.

  • This is a soup recipe, which links the earth and water elements, and stabilizes the root, sacral, and throat chakras.

Pup-Safe Healing Bone Broth

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. grass-fed/pasture raised/organic bones (I used left over turkey bones and carcass. You can easily use marrow bones for a beef bone broth, or chicken bones/carcass for a chicken bone broth)

  • 6 organic garlic cloves, crushed with skin INTACT

  • 3 organic celery stalks/leaves, roughly chopped (include the leaves)

  • 3 carrots, peeled & roughly chopped

  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil (cold pressed, unrefined, virgin, organic)

  • 1 tbsp. organic Turkey Tail mushroom powder

  • ½ tbsp. turmeric

  • ½ tsp. gluten free fish sauce

  • 7 cracks of fresh black pepper

How to Create this Recipe:

  1. The instructions will be the same for both versions of the bone broth. The first part of the instructions are for making this bone broth in an InsantPot. BUT, i've got you covered (at the bottom of the instructions) on how to make this recipe without an InstantPot!

  2. Place your bones into the your InstantPot liner, followed by all of the remaining ingredients. Then, using filtered water (I use reverse osmosis water), fill the pot up to the MAX line. Do not fill any higher than this! Give the contents a good stir. Secure the lid, making sure the quick release steam valve is turned to the closed position.

  3. Once your InstantPot base is plugged in, press the manual button, then select high pressure and adjust the timer to 120 minutes using the "+" or "-" buttons. Once you have set the timer to 120, the base will kick on after a few moments. The timer will not start counting down until the pressure has built inside the pot; this may take 10-15 minutes, especially if using frozen bones or cold water.

  4. After your broth has completed it's high pressure cooking for 120 minutes and chimes that the time is up, DO NOT USE THE QUICK RELEASE VALVE!! It is important to let the pressure decrease on its own as this gives more time for the vitamins and minerals to be pulled from the bones and veggies. You will know when the pressure has dissipated when the lid is easily removed (when the pressure build up is too high, the lid will not budge).

  5. Once your bone broth has cooled a bit, take a slotted spoon and remove all the bones and veggies. When the broth is fully cooled, you can pour the broth into individual containers for easier storage, freeze them in ice cube trays (great for pups or smoothies!), or use it all immediately for a recipe! Might I suggest using it for my Healing Gluten Free "Matzo" Ball Soup?!

  6. Don't have an instant pot?? That's A-OK! You can use this recipe to cook bone broth on the stove or in a crockpot! Just add all your ingredients to a soup pot or crockpot liner, fill with water, leaving about 2 inches clear at the top. Cook on the low setting for the crockpot anywhere from 10-24 hours or cook at a very low heat on the stove for 10-24 hours.

  7. Enjoy!!

* NOTES:

  • This is a true bone broth, full of gut-healing gelatin, collagen and tons of anti-inflammatory compounds. So when it cools, it should form into a gelatinous texture. Don't worry though! This is EXACTLY what you're looking for! Once heated it will liquify again :o)

  • One trick to getting the timer to start faster, is to remove the lid after a few minutes. This will bring steam up to the top of the pot so that when you put the lid back on and secure it closed, the steam pushes the float valve up (which is what happens in time with pressure build up). This will kick on the timer faster.

  • The longer you let this broth cook on the stove or in the crockpot, the better as it will pull more collagen, minerals, and vitamins from the ingredients.

  • I suggest cooking beef bones for a few hours longer than you would poultry bones.
